 Custom Steelhead Rods are an incredible tool to have in your arsenal! They not only allow you to choose every component to fit your technique or style but give you the option to add features that are not available in any factory built rod. We spent over a year testing on the water various styles, rod building techniques and performance upgrades to bring you the best steelhead rods available, with options not available in any factory steelhead rod. Not only are these rods sensitive they are extremely light weight and when compared with any of the most expensive, high quality rods, will win the weight battle. In fact we have not found a steelhead rod that weighs less than our custom rods and that includes rods over $400! What is the most important part of a rod being light weight? Sensitivity!! These rods can be fished all day long without having to worry about fatigue and you will feel every rock and pebble in the river. Below we will talk about some of our unique designs that set Steelhead Stalkers Rods apart from any other rods on the market.

 

 

These rods are built on North Fork Composites rod blanks. They are designed by Gary Loomis and are the highest quality fishing blank you can buy today! If you would like to see more info about NFC rod blanks you can watch the video we filmed with Gary Loomis below.

We use a new composite carbon fiber split grip that not only decreases weight but adds strength and longevity to the grip that cork cannot match. We build these grips from scratch and form them to fit seamlessly with the split reel seat. These carbon fiber grips are 40% lighter than cork of the same size and shape and transmit vibrations from the blank much better than cork. Cork actually dampens vibration. Another advantage to these grips is that once they get wet they actually get a tacky feel to them to help grip the rod easier.

 

 

The second unique feature we are using on all of our custom rods is this new split reel seat. It is 40% lighter than other premium reel seats and allows you to have your middle finger and index finger directly on the blank adding even more sensitivity to the rod. One of the best advantages to this reel seat is that it has no exposed reel seat threads like all other reel seats on the market. It is all hidden under the grip. This leaves you with a very comfortable, ergonomical reel seat that is solid as a rock.

 

 

Normally the problem with reducing weight out of the butt section is that the rod will be tip heavy. We have solved this problem with a hybrid guide placement to remove as much weight from the tip section as possible while actually adding to the sensitivity of the rod. We are using Recoils black pear guides along with their single foot fly guides that are made from ultra light titanium and are flexible. These top of the line guides and North Fork Composites incredibly light rod blanks allow us to make steelhead rods very light weight that also balance perfectly! If you would like to lower the price of the rod you have the option of using very light Minima Guides as well.

 

 

We set out to build the lightest, most sensitive steelhead rods available and feel that we have achieved this goal. The rod pictured above is a 9'6", 6-10 lb steelhead rod that weighs 3.4 oz!
