The High Definition Video above is of our two day trip out to Wickiup Reservoir in Central Oregon. Wickiup was one of only two lakes open during the opening weekend of trout season this year with all of the snow fall this year in the higher elevations. This lake is known for Monster Brown Trout and we were not disappointed!! Overall the weekend was slow with not a lot of people catching fish and the ones we did catch we worked very hard for. The water temperature was between 42-45 degrees and I feel that this made the fish more lethargic and less aggressive. We fished the second weekend of the season for some early summer brown trout. The weather was very cold and there was still a foot or two of snow on the side of the roads!! We managed to hook and land six fish and we captured most of them on film. We trolled plugs like Rapala X-Raps and Bomber Long A's along with some expensive japanese minnow baits. We kept our speed between three and six miles an hour and varied our tactics from jerking our baits to just letting them run in the water. The fish ran in size from 16 inches to 27.5 inches and eight pounds!!! We also hooked a few more fish that felt like they were on the large side but ended up losing them.
